Man United lining up January swoop for Real Madrid winger
Published:
The latest reports suggest Manchester United are preparing a January bid for one of Real Madrid’s top talents. But it’s not Gareth Bale or Cristiano Ronaldo.
The man in question? Marco Asensio.
He’s already chalked up seven goals in 21 games this season for Los Blancos. But the 21-year-old had proved himself a man for the big occasion before this campaign began.
The Spaniard has scored in a Champions League Final, successive El Clasico fixtures and the knockout stages of the Copa Del Rey.
Asensio has also now racked up eight caps for the national team, featuring in three of the last four World Cup qualifiers for La Furia Roja.
With the Mallorca native likely to feature on the biggest stage in Russia next summer, his market value could quickly skyrocket from the £30m currently estimated by Transfermarkt.co.uk.
For the Red Devils’ part, they do have options on the wing. But Jesse Lingard is yet to prove himself as a consistently top-class performer, while Anthony Martial is arguably more effective in a centre-forward role.
United are still challenging on all fronts, so a January addition on the flanks could make a huge difference.
With the Manchester and Madrid giants having done plenty of transfer business with one another in the past, we wouldn’t be surprised to see Asensio unveiled at Old Trafford before the end of January.
As for the current Man United squad, they host table-topping Manchester City on Sunday. The Red Devils are 11/5 for victory.
