Southampton favs to sign Eibar captain but Newcastle interested

The January transfer window begins in just over a fortnight. It seems Southampton have already decided on their key target, with the South Coast club favourites to sign Eibar ace Dani Garcia.

The rock-solid midfielder is just Evens to make St Mary’s his next home, with the 27-year-old believed to favour a Premier League move.

With just six months left on his Eibar contract, Los Armeros will likely want to make some money off the defensive midfielder in January.

And with Transfermarkt.co.uk estimating his market value at £5m, he’d still prove a steal for potential suitors.

However, the Saints could face stiff competition for his signature. Newcastle United are 2/1 to snap up the Zumarraga native.

He’s a player Rafa Benitez faced when in charge of Real Madrid, and now it seems the former Bernabeu boss wants Garcia on his side.

Also 2/1 to secure the player’s services are Athletic Bilbao. They’ve struggled so far this season, and a move to sign the midfielder from their Basque rivals could be just the ticket. With 118 La Liga appearances under his belt, he’d be a safe buy.

But as it stands, it’s Mauricio Pellegrino’s Saints who look the most likely to be securing the tough-tackling midfielder’s signature.

The current Southampton crop are in need of improvement. They’re winless in four, with 15/2 on offer for the South Coast club to pull off a surprise win at Chelsea on Saturday.
