Arsenal lead Man City in January race for West Brom captain

Jonny Evans transfer news

The future of Jonny Evans remains up in the air. But right now it’s Arsenal who are most likely to end January with the West Bromwich Albion star in their ranks.

It’s 11/10 for the 30-year-old to be a Gunners player by the end of the window. Boss Arsene Wenger is certainly looking to revamp his defence, which showed huge frailties in Sunday’s 4-2 defeat at Nottingham Forest.

However, title-topping Manchester City remain in the hunt for the Baggies captain.

While the Citizens are seemingly unstoppable at present, boss Pep Guardiola has consistently been linked with a move for Evans in recent month. And it’s 15/8 for the former Manchester United man to join their local rivals.

Those odds make grim reading for West Brom fans, who will likely have to get used to life without their leader.

Evans has played 85 times for the Black Country club, since joining in 2015. But it’s his experience as a three-time Premier League winner which could make the centre-back most valuable to his potential suitors.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “Evans has long been linked with a move away from the Baggies and it looks as though the defender may finally complete a switch. City have led the way in the market up to this point but Arsenal’s desperate need for a reliable defender means they’re now favourites.”
