As if they hadn’t spent enough when landing Philippe Coutinho, Barcelona have returned to the transfer market for their second deal of the month.

The La Liga giants have announced the arrival of defender Yerry Mina.

But who is Barca’s new man?

Colombian Mina heads to Spain in a £10m deal from Brazilian heavyweights Palmeiras.

It’s believed he has been signed to fill the expected void of Javier Mascherano. The former West Ham United defender is poised for a move to the Chinese Super League.

Mina comes amid plenty of plaudits, following a series of impressive spells in South America.

The 23-year-old Colombian international began his career with his native Deportivo Pasto, before stepping up to Santa Fe in 2014.

He was rarely out the side during his three years in Bogota, helping them win the Copa Sudamericana and the Superliga Colombia in 2015.

Mina’s rapid rise continued with a £3m move to South American giants Palmeiras in 2016.

The move to Brazil proved no obstacle. Mina made 49 appearances for the club, netting an impressive nine times.

At almost 6ft 4in, he brings an imposing presence to the Camp Nou, and his knack for getting among the goals will be welcomed too.

Mina has signed a five-and-a-half year deal at Barcelona, with an £88.56m release clause.
