Arsenal need to restore Lacazette’s confidence quickly

Arsenal’s 1-0 defeat in Saturday’s North London derby has left them well off the pace in the race for a top-four spot.

Arsene Wenger’s side are sixth, seven points behind Tottenham Hotspur in fourth.

Their poor league form means that the Europa League offers their best chance of securing a spot in next season’s Champions League.

But if they’re going to triumph in Europe, they’ll need Alexandre Lacazette to rediscover his form.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s arrival at the Emirates has pushed Lacazette down the pecking order. But Aubameyang can’t play in European competition for the Gunners this season.

Lacazette will lead the line on the continent, but his confidence is totally shot at the minute.

He came on as a substitute against Spurs and wasted two glorious chances to secure a draw for the Gunners.

At his best, he’s a clinical finisher. However, he currently looks a shell of the player who scored 76 league goals over the last three seasons for Lyon. The France international has only scored once in his last 13 appearances.

He’ll have a chance to get back amongst the goals against Ostersunds on Thursday.

On paper, it’s an easy tie for Arsenal. They’re clear 4/7 favourites. And it’s a good chance for Lacazette to get back on the scoresheet. He’s 10/3 to score First or 23/20 to score Anytime.

If Arsenal are going to end the season with a European trophy, they’ll need him to start firing again soon.
