Can new-look Nottingham Forest climb the table?
Published:
Nottingham Forest fans haven’t had much to shout about since their impressive FA Cup win over Arsenal.
Aitor Karanka’s side are 17th in the Championship, eight points above the bottom three. The play-offs look well out of reach – Bristol City are 17 points ahead in sixth.
Forest have only won one of their last 11 league games. They’ve lost five home games on the spin in league action too.
But Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Burton Albion offered shoots of optimism.
Four January signings made their first starts for the club, including Ben Watson, Lee Tomlin and Joe Lolley.
There are several promising youngsters on Forest’s books. But the new additions add valuable experience to the squad.
Karanka’s side also kept their first clean sheet in five games at the Pirelli Stadium.
They need to start scoring more goals too, but one step at a time.
In Karanka, Forest have a manager who knows how to navigate the Championship, having taking Middlesbrough up as champions two years ago.
Now they’ve bolstered the squad, they should start to rise up the table, starting with tonight’s game against Reading.
Jaap Stam’s side are four points behind Forest with a game in hand. They’ve lost three of their last five outings.
Forest are 27/20 for a home win, But we think there could be potential in Forest and Both Teams to Score at 21/5. Reading have only failed to score in one away league game since October.
