Champions League best bets: Basel to test Man City, Juve to keep it tight

Man City betting news

The return of the Champions League after a two-month break is one of the great highs of the annual football calendar.

There are few things as enjoyable as Europe’s elite going head to head in the knockout rounds.

Tuesday night’s last-16 ties see Basel host Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur travel to Turin to face Juventus.

The Ladbrokes News Crew take a look at some of the best bets in both games…

Basel v Man City

You don’t need to be told what kind of form Manchester City are currently in. Pep Guardiola’s side have been magnificent all season.

But we do wonder how City will approach this tie considering how good the Swiss side have been against English opposition previously.

In European competition at home, they have beaten Chelsea, Manchester United, and drew with Tottenham since 2012.

Basel are 8/1 to win, and 11/5 in the Double Chance market. The Swiss Super League champions have never failed to score against an English side at home in nine games going back to 2002.

Both Teams To Score – Yes is generously-priced at 20/23. And they have scored 2+ in six of those ties. That’s priced at 15/4 here.

If you are backing Guardiola’s team, it might be better to do so with goals also on the agenda. City are 20/23 to win and Over 2.5 Goals. And 15/8 to win and Both Teams To Score.

Juventus v Tottenham Hotspur

What a game we have in store at the Juventus Stadium – last season’s UCL finalists up against Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs.

Juve are Even-Money to win, with Tottenham at 3/1, and the Draw at 11/5.

Spurs have a monumental task to overcome in Turin. The Serie A champions have conceded just one goal in their last sixteen games in all competitions.

That amounts to a solitary concession in over 24 hours of game time – remarkable. Harry Kane is in tremendous form but can he top that?

Both Teams To Score – No is 4/5. And Juve to win to Nil is a juicier-looking 21/10.

Pochettino will know that, by keeping this a low-scoring affair, Spurs will remain in with a huge shout at Wembley in the return leg.

There’s a good possibility there might be a solitary goal in this game. Under 1.5 Goals is 9/5 and worth a bet.
