Cheltenham Gold Cup update: Road to Respect attracting support

| 16.02.2018

Road to Respect has seen his odds cut to 8/1 for the Cheltenham Gold Cup next month.

Noel Meade’s runner has been attracting steady support recently as punters shy away from 3/1 favourite Might Bite.

The seven-year-old has been brought in from 10/1 following a series of good performances before the New Year. The son of Gamut pitched up first in the Leopardstown Christmas Chase following a narrow second in the Down Royal Champion Chase in November.

Might Bite, on the other hand, remains unbeaten this season following impressive successes in the Future Stars Intermediate Chase and the King George VI Chase at Kempton on Boxing Day.

His trainer Nicky Henderson has won the Gold Cup with the favourite twice before and will fancy his chances again on the 16th March.

Last year’s winner Sizing John remains a key player at 6/1, that despite a disappointing seventh in the Christmas Chase.

Native River is also 6/1 following a successful return to action in the Denman Chase after a 330-day lay-off. Meanwhile, Coney Island and Killultagh Vic can both be backed at 10/1, with Our Duke at 12/1.

However, it’s Definitly Red that catches our attention. The nine-year-old has looked impressive this season. He returned favouritism to land the Many Clouds Chase in December and followed that up by triumphing in the Trial Cotswold Chase last month.

With previous Cheltenham disappointments behind him, you can back the Brian Ellison-trained runner at 16/1.

Edwulf, who triumphed in the Irish Gold Cup at 33/1, is available at 20/1.

Nicola McGeady of Ladbrokes said: “With not everyone sold on Might Bite in the Gold Cup, punters are looking at Road To Respect as the solid each-way bet. He goes to the festival fresh having swerved Leopardstown and it’s easy to see the attraction.
