Can anyone catch Cristiano Ronaldo in race to be UCL top scorer?

Cristiano Ronaldo - Portugal

As it stands, Cristiano Ronaldo is in prime position to be the Champions League’s top goal-scorer this term. The Real Madrid star has recorded 11 goals so far – four more than anyone else.

However, Los Blancos face a tough test to make it past Paris Saint-Germain in the Round of 16. Madrid won the first leg 3-1 at home, but face a PSG side who’ve won their last 19 home games.

Ronaldo is 4/9 to finish as UCL top-scorer, but if Real do exit the competition tonight, it could open the door to the following hopefuls…

Harry Kane – 8/1

Tottenham Hotspur are on course for progression, following a valuable first-leg 2-2 draw away at Juventus. The 24-year-old registered in that game, taking his total in the competition to seven.

The Spurs striker has found the net in six of his last 10 games, but you have to go back to mid-January for the last time he scored more than one goal in a match.

We’re not ruling him out, but the England international needs to rediscover his best form.

Lionel Messi – 17/2

The Spaniard broke one of his few unwanted career records in the first leg at Chelsea. The eight games he’d faced them in without scoring was the most of any club – but an equaliser at Stamford Bridge took Messi to four in this season’s UCL.

That still leaves him a hefty seven goals behind ‘Ronnie’.But if there’s one player in world football who can pull out a couple of hat-tricks in succession, it’s the Argentine magician.

And with qualification against the Blues likely, he should have plenty more chances to find the net in this competition.

Edinson Cavani – 16/1

Ronaldo will be up against one of his rivals in this market at Parc des Princes. The Uruguayan bagged six goals in the Group Stage, and will be hoping to rediscover his European groove tonight.

The 31-year-old heads into this one in good form, following four goals in his last three outings. He can also take confidence from scoring in each of PSG’s UCL knockout games last term. Sure, he’s an outside shot. But stranger things have happened.
