ITV Racing Preview: Sir Chauvelin on for a royal win in Queens Cup

Haydock Racing

Even with a slight lull in the action between Cheltenham and the Grand National, there’s still some decent racing from Musselburgh and Haydock on Saturday.

It’s flat racing from the former and jumps from the latter. And the ITV racing crew will be there to catch all the racing just for you.

Ahead of the renewals, we’ll delve into the form-book and pick out three of our best bets…

NAP – Sir Chauvelin each-way – 3:35, Musselburgh

After a below-par-performance last time out in the Scottish Handicap Hurdle, Sir Chauvelin drops back to the flat in a bid for a win in the Queens Cup Handicap.

This is the second running of this race after its inception last year. Jim Goldie’s talented six-year-old looks a tad long at the current prices. And it’s mostly based off his previous poor run.

He’s won on this course before back in January in similar conditions over hurdles and can get us off to a good start if he goes well.

NB –Wicked Willy each-way – 3:15, Haydock

The Smarkets Challenger Staying Chase Series Final Handicap Chase at Haydock looks an exciting, wide-open renewal.

And Nigel Twiston-Davies’ Wicked Willy looks a very interesting prospect. After switching to chasing this season, the six-year-old has a decent record of two wins from five runs.

He’s favourably handicapped here and will love the conditions. He ran well here when third last year and will be comfortable with the course.

Lively Longshot – Jarlath each-way – 2:05, Haydock

Staying at Haydock, in the Middle Distance Chase Series Final Handicap Chase, we’re getting onside with Seamus Mullins’ Jarlath.

The seven-year-old Irish raider has yet to win this year but has remained pretty consistent, with two seconds and a third.

Previous to that, he won at Warwick at 2m 4f last November. Despite large odds, connections he could be in with a shout of a place at least if he runs well.

ITV Racing Tips:
