Netherlands v England: Will Southgate find a formula for Russia?
Published:
England kick-off their World Cup preparations tonight against the Netherlands.
Gareth Southgate is expected to make a full use of his squad and name a largely-untested side in Amsterdam.
Harry Maguire, Jordan Pickford and Ashley Young could put themselves into contention to start in Russia.
And although the Dutch have missed out on the World Cup, this isn’t a meaningless game for them. Their players will want to impress new boss Ronald Koeman.
Koeman’s side are slight 29/20 favourites to start his reign with a win. The Three Lions are 7/4 and the draw is 2/1.
It takes time to drill a well-organised defence. But the likely England back three of John Stones, Maguire and Eric Dier have never played together before. Both Teams to Score – Yes is 23/20.
Harry Kane’s absence means Jamie Vardy is set to start up front. The Leicester City star is 5/1 to score First.
Raheem Sterling will look to carry his impressive goalscoring form on the international stage. He’s 14/5 to grab a goal at any point.
For the Netherlands, this could be Memphis Depay’s time to step up. Arjen Robben and Wesley Sneijder aren’t there anymore. The former Manchester United winger is a 14/5 shot to get on the scoresheet.
