Vettel makes it two from two with tense Bahrain win

| 09.04.2018

Sebastian Vettel maintained his perfect start to the new Formula One season with an expertly-taken win in the Bahrain Grand Prix.

The German held off a late charge from Valtteri Bottas on Sunday, with Lewis Hamilton coming up from ninth on the grid to finish third.

Red Bull duo Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo, plus Vettel’s Ferrari team-mate Kimi Raikkonen all retired from the race.

Vettel now holds a 17-point lead over Hamilton, as both men seek their fifth world titles this season.

But despite his strong start to the campaign, Ferrari man Vettel is still the outsider in our odds for the championship.

Hamilton leads the way at 4/6, with his German rival at 7/4.

The season already looks set to become a two-horse race between the quadruple champions. Bottas is third in the betting, but is out at 14/1. Verstappen and Ricciardo are each 20/1.

The season moves swiftly on to the Far East this weekend, and the Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai.

Mercedes have dominated this event in recent times, winning every year since 2014.

Hamilton is a five-time winner of the event, while Vettel has been relatively unsuccessful by his standards, with a sole victory in 2009.

Our traders have Hamilton as 10/11 favourite to secure his first win of the season. Vettel is next up at 9/4.

Bottas, fresh off his impressive run in Bahrain, is 15/2.

Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo are 17/2 and 9/1, respectively, while Kimi Raikkonen is 14/1 to land his first win since 2013.
