Five European leagues where the title is still up for grabs

The end of the season is fast approaching, and though a number of league titles have already been wrapped up, there’s plenty still at stake.

That’s certainly the case in Italy, Turkey, Belgium, Czech Republic and Slovenia, where this season’s top tiers are still to be decided.

We’ve done the ground work and laid it all out for you…

Italy

Most of Europe’s ‘top-five’ leagues have been dominated by one team, but Serie A has been a ding-dong duel between Juventus and Napoli this season.

The latter have been desperate to oust Juve from their perch, and a 1-0 win in Turin last month appeared to put them in the box seats.

But Napoli have dropped points in their last two games. The Old Lady now have a five-point gap with just two games left to play.

Turkey

If things in Serie A were intense, then Turkey’s Super Lig is another level altogether.

With just two games to go, four teams can will win the league.

Galatasaray lead the way on 69 points, with rivals Fenerbahce three points back. They’re level on points with last year’s runners-up Istanbul Basaksehir, with reigning champions Besiktas just one point further back.

Belgium

Belgium have a somewhat complex top division, involving play-offs and half points. But the bottom line is it’s going to the wire.

With three games to go, Club Brugge have a two-point lead over reigning champions Anderlecht. Standard Liege aren’t out of the running either in third, and still have to play the two sides above them.

Czech Republic

Over in the Czech Republic there’s a two-team race between European regulars Viktoria Plzen and Slavia Prague.

Plzen hold a handy six-point advantage with just three games to go. But Slavia breathed new life into the fight by defeating the league leaders last time out.

Slovenia

And in Slovenia there’s still a sizeable way to go. Five games remain and three teams could yet be crowned champions.

Olimpijia currently lead the way, but reigning champions Maribor are just a point behind. The two sides meet in what could be a winner-takes-all clash next weekend.

Domzale are nine points off the pace, but with 15 on the table, they’re still in the mix.

Further adding to the trio’s battle is that Domzale are still to host both Olimpija and Maribor before the season ends.
