Rotherham vs Scunthorpe tips: Millers to make home advantage count in tight contest

Published:

If the first leg of this League One play-off semi-final is anything to go by then we are in for another topsy-turvy 90 minutes.

“It is so close, but feels like a billion years away” said Rotherham boss Paul Warne when asked about promotion.

Rotherham United were minutes away from taking a valuable 2-1 win back to the New York Stadium.

But Scunthorpe United’s Cameron McGeehan’s late equaliser was the Hollywood moment they needed in a dramatic first-leg tussle.

Warne will be hoping his two goal-scorers Joe Newell and Jon Taylor shake off knocks from last weekend. And though , he’s also sweating on the fitness of defensive duo Joe Mattock and Michael Ihiekwe, Rotherham remain slight favourites to qualify for the final at 4/7.

The Iron were downed by Milwall at this stage of the play-offs last year. They will need to go all-out attack to avoid the same fate. Nick Daws’ men are 13/10 to advance to the Wembley showpiece.

Although Scunthorpe also have injury concerns of their own with goalkeeper Matt Gilks a real doubt.

Rotherham have scored at least one goal in eight of their last nine games. The match to feature over 3.5 goals again is 3/1 with Rotherham to win and over 3.5 at 7/1.

It was a midfield battle in terms of goal-scorers last Saturday and Rotherham’s Taylor is at 13/5 to repeat his feat.

McGeehan’s been in and out of the Scunthorpe side this season but is a 10/3 shot to repeat his heroics and score again.
