Lewis Hamilton produced a sterling drive from 14th on the grid to win Sunday’s German Grand Prix.

The four-time world champion claimed his fourth win of the season after title rival Sebastian Vettel crashed out from the lead late on during a rain shower.

Zero to hero for Hamilton

Hamilton’s hopes of victory appeared to be dashed on Saturday when a car failure in qualifying left him 14th on the grid.

But a smart strategy coupled with Hamilton’s prowess in difficult conditions saw things come good on Sunday.

Hamilton’s victory means he now leads the world championship by 17 points from his German foe.

And our traders make the Englishman odds-on favourite to win the title this season at 8/13.

Vettel comes unstuck in the rain

Vettel is now the 11/8 outsider after his error at the Hockenheimring. The Ferrari star appeared to have the race under control, after leading from pole position.

But it all went wrong on lap 52, when a rain shower made conditions treacherous.

Vettel locked up and slithered off track into the barriers in front of his home crowd.

It could prove to be a pivotal point of the championship and the German knew it as he pounded his steering wheel in frustration.

Vettel made a disastrous error in Singapore during last season’s title fight, and he’s on the back foot once again.

Hungary could offer quick redemption

The German must only wait a week before righting his wrongs at the Hungarian Grand Prix.

But he heads to the Budapest venue as 13/8 favourite. The twisty circuit should suit Ferrari over Mercedes, as was the case in 2017.

But Hamilton often excels at the Hungaroring. He’s won the event five times previously and is 5/2 to make it six next time out.

Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen will fancy their chances too. The Red Bull is widely regarded as the best handling car in the field, and they could thrive on the twisty venue.

Our traders make Verstappen 3/1 to claim his second win of the season in Hungary, with Ricciardo fourth in the betting at 10/3.
