Five England players in 10 most likely names for BBC SPOTY award

The odds are in for this year’s BBC Sports Personality of the Year. And there are five members of England’s World Cup squad in the most likely 10.

At the head of the betting is captain Harry Kane at odds of 1/2. The Tottenham Hotspur ace is on course for the World Cup Golden Boot, having netted six times in Russia so far.

Next up is 7/1 shot Jordan Pickford, with the Everton stopper followed by boxer Anthony Joshua at 16/1 and Three Lions teammate Harry Maguire at 16s.

Having helped Gareth Southgate’s side to a first World Cup semi-final in 28 years, Dele Alli and Jordan Henderson are 25/1 apiece for SPOTY glory.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “It’s been a while since an England player has won SPOTY, but that looks set to change this year following the Three Lions’ incredible run in Russia.”

The Three Lions’ face Belgium in the third-place play-off tomorrow. England are 11/5 to win in 90 minutes, while the odds make Southgate’s men 5/4 to clinch third place.
