Premier League: Transfer round-up with a month to go

| 09.07.2018

As the World Cup enters the final two stages, the transfer window is beginning to heat up just one month before it closes.

With England getting to the latter stages of the tournament, understandably, everyone has been focused on events in Russia.

But moves are still taking place, albeit a little under the radar. So we’re taking a quick look at how the top flight squads are currently shaping up.

The Top Seven

In a transfer league table, Liverpool would probably top the rankings right now.

The signings of Fabinho and Naby Keita were done and dusted with minimum fuss. And the pair look top quality. Plus, Mohamed Salah also signed a new long-term deal.

Arsenal have been very astute, too. New boss Unai Emery has snapped up Bernd Leno, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, and Stephan Lichtsteiner. Sampdoria’s Lucas Torreira looks like he’s also on the way and Steven Nzonzi looks primed for a move as well.

Manchester United have been reasonably active. Jose Mourinho has nabbed Brazil international Fred, Diogo Dalot from Porto, and backup keeper, Lee Grant.

Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City, and Chelsea have yet to make a dent in the market.

Mid-table

Lower down the league, plenty of clubs have been busy. West Ham United have signed Issa Diop from Toulouse. Lukasz Fabianski and Ryan Fredericks have also made the move to London Stadium.

Brighton have made a pair of really interesting signings in RB Leipzig full-back Bernardo, and Deportivo La Coruna striker, Florin Andone.

Watford have made six new signings with Gerard Deulofeu topping the bill. Southampton have snapped up Mohamed Elyounoussi from Basel and Stuart Armstrong from Celtic.

Leicester City have made a handful of really interesting signings. The Foxes have bagged Jonny Evans from West Bromwich Albion. And they’ve also snapped up James Maddison from Norwich City and right-back Ricardo Pereira from Porto.

Promoted trio

Of the newly promoted sides, Wolverhampton Wanderers have signed Portugal number one Rui Patricio. Plus, they’ve made permanent moves for Diogo Jota, Leo Bonatini, and Willy Boly.

Cardiff City have signed Championship stars Josh Murphy, Bobby Reid, Alex Smithies, and Greg Cunningham.

Fulham have yet to get off the mark but Slavisa Jokanovic has been linked with an ambitious move from Jean-Michael Seri from Nice.
