This summer’s most expensive Premier League signings XI

There’s still a couple of weeks before the Premier League roars into action, but top-flight clubs will be in a frenzy trying to get their squads sorted.

The shortened transfer window this summer means things could get even more hectic than usual in the next couple of weeks.

Premier League clubs have already completed over £900m worth of business. Who’ve been the biggest buys so far? We’ve put together a very pricey XI from the summer’s most expensive movers so far…

GK: Alisson – £65m

Goalkeepers have tended to be undervalued given their importance to a team. But Liverpool have smashed the record fee for a shot-stopper to bring in Alisson from Roma.

If the Brazil number one solves their long-term weakness between the posts, it’ll be money well spent.

RB: Ricardo Pereira – £17.5m

Leicester City have upgraded their defensive options by bringing in Ricardo Pereira from Porto.

The right-back has plenty of European experience and he represented Portugal at this summer’s World Cup. The Foxes will hope he can help them qualify for continental competition.

CB: Issa Diop – £22m

West Ham United have been very busy this summer. But Issa Diop could be one of their most important signings.

They’ve leaked far too many goals in recent years. Diop has been brought in to help fix that.

CB: Jannick Vestergaard – £18m

Southampton will hope towering centre-back Jannick Vestergaard can fill the Virgil van Dijk-sized hole in their defence.

The former Borussia Monchengladbach defender could really thrive in English football. His aerial prowess can make a difference at both ends of the pitch.

LB: Diogo Dalot – £19m

Manchester United can’t count on Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young as their first-choice full-backs for too much longer. They’ll both be 33-years-old when the new season kicks off.

Diogo Dalot only played six league games for Porto, but United saw enough potential to spend big on him. He can operate on either flank, which could come in very handy.

DM: Fred – £43.7m

Is Fred the man to free Paul Pogba at United? Jose Mourinho will hope so. The Brazilian is likely to play with Matic and Pogba in a midfield trio for the Red Devils.

Fred tends to protect the defence, but he’s tidy on the ball too. If he and Matic do the dirty work, Pogba should have the licence to break forward and show off his skills.

CM: Jorginho – £50.4m

Chelsea fended off competition from Manchester City to land Jorginho. He would have been perfect for City’s possession-based game. Instead, he’ll help his former Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri get the Blues up to speed.

It’s going to take some time for Sarri to get his ideas across. He plays a totally different style to Antonio Conte’s rigid system. Jorginho’s presence will make the process much easier.

CM: Naby Keita – £52.8m

Naby Keita could become a superstar at Liverpool. He’s an all-action man in midfield, as comfortable flying into tackles as he is playing a precise through ball.

The Reds finished some way behind City last season. Keita should help them close that gap this time around.

RW: Riyad Mahrez – £60m

How do you improve after a record-breaking season? If you’re Pep Guardiola and Man City, you bring in Riyad Mahrez.

It’s unclear where the former Leicester man will play at the Etihad, but he’s got the talent to grace any side in the division.

LW: Felipe Anderson – £33.5m

If West Ham fans want attacking football, they’re going to love Felipe Anderson. The winger helped Lazio score more goals than any other side in Serie A last term.

He breezes past defenders when he’s in full flow. Having brought in Anderson, Andriy Yarmolenko and Jack Wilshere, the Hammers could be very exciting this season.

ST: Bobby Reid – £10m

Premier League sides have spent plenty of money this season, but not much of it has gone on strikers. Saying that, Bobby Reid could prove to be an absolute bargain if his goals keep Cardiff City up.

The 25-year-old got 19 goals for Bristol City in the Championship last term. It’s a big step up to the top tier. But Reid’s intelligence on the pitch should see him make the grade.
