Wednesday at Wimbledon: Federer on course for another SW19 final

The second Wednesday of the tournament is when we get to the business end of things in the men’s draw.

You can smell the final but can’t quite touch it. But first, eight must become four.

Novak Djokovic opens up on Centre Court today. He faces Kei Nishikori in the quarters.

Djokovic has dominated their duels to date though, winning thirteen of the fifteen matches. He is 1/7 to reach the semi-finals.

However this will be their first ever meeting on grass which could throw up some challenges for the Serb.

Nishikori to win the opening set is 5/2 and is 9/2 for the match.

Roger Federer has been wombling through the tournament so far cleaning up in straight-sets.

But he faces his greatest test so far in the big-hitting Kevin Anderson. The pair have only met four-times, most recently on the hard-courts in 2015.

Federer has won all four meetings and is 1/12 to advance. He’s also 4/7 to continue his clean sweep of not losing a set.

Anderson has got a huge serve though and could cause trouble on No. 1 Court. The South African is 7/1 to win.

The second match on Centre Court is the ultra-competitive Juan Martin Del Potro versus Rafael Nadal.

Nadal hasn’t had the greatest recent record at Wimbledon but is in his first quarter-final draw since 2011.

He got to the final that year. And he’s 4/11 to win here and edge closer to Sunday’s showpiece.

Del Potro will be a familiar foe on the other side of the net. In their last four meeting stretching back to 2013, the pair are tied at 2 wins apiece.

The Argentine may have lost to Nadal at Roland Garros earlier this year, but has looked good on grass so far and is 9/4 for victory.

The Milos Raonic and John Isner tie is perhaps the most intriguing with both men quite evenly matched in style.

With all four previous match-ups played on hard courts there’s not much to be gleamed from Isner’s 3-1 win record.

This is the American’s first Wimbledon quarter-final appearance and is 6/5 to make the last-four.

Raonic did reach the final at SW19 in 2016 and this experience could help him. He’s 4/6 for the win.
