We’ve priced up the contenders for the Premier League Golden Boot

Mo Salah

The new Premier League season is almost upon us, and as ever, one of the biggest talking points concerns which forward will walk away with the Golden Boot.

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah became the first Reds player to win the award since Luis Suarez in 2014 with his 32 goals last season.

Yet the Egyptian is not the favourite to win the award for a second year in a row.

Tottenham Hotspur and England striker Harry Kane is the 11/4 short-odds favourite to land the accolade for a third time in four seasons.

Salah is next best at 6/1, alongside Manchester-based pair Romelu Lukaku and Sergio Aguero at the same-price.

No Arsenal player has won the Golden Boot since Robin van Persie during 2011-12. Gunners fans will hope Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is the antidote to that wretched run at 7/1.

Gabriel Jesus rounds out the sub-10/1 contenders at 8/1. The Brazil ace notched 13 times in the top-flight for Manchester City last season and even bigger things are expected of him this time around.

Cross-town rival Alexis Sanchez is next at 16/1, ahead of Roberto Firmino at 20/1.

Of the long-odds picks, Jamie Vardy and Raheem Sterling are both available at 33/1, with West Ham United talisman Marko Arnautovic a 50/1 shot.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “With so many huge names leading the lines of the Premier League’s top clubs, this could be the closest Golden Boot race we’ve ever seen in the top-flight.”
