AEK Athens v Celtic tips: Hoops can edge UCL second-leg in Greece

Leigh Griffiths - Celtic

Celtic face a crucial test on Tuesday night, with the second leg of their Champions League qualifier against AEK Athens.

The first encounter ended 1-1 at Celtic Park. But with the Hoops boasting the better European record of the two sides, that pedigree could see them edge it at Athens’ Olympic Stadium.

Match Odds

The Hoops are unbeaten in their five UCL games so far this season. They’re 7/4 for victory in 90 minutes, following wins at the likes of Rosenborg and Anderlecht in recent times.

Meanwhile, an AEK victory is 17/10 and it’s 2/1 for a draw in normal time.

Four of Celtic’s last seven games have seen three or more goals scored. It’s 11/8 for Over 2.5 Goals, whilst Both Teams to Score is an even-money shot.

Talking Tactics

The Hoops have tended towards a 4-2-3-1 system this season, and it’s delivered UCL wins over Alashkert and Rosenborg. So chances are they’ll stick with it.

Moussa Dembele is travelling to Athens, but his injury lay-off means a start is unlikely. Leigh Griffiths will probably sit behind Odsonne Edouard up top.

AEK tend towards three at the back, with a defensive midfield duo protecting them. Konstantinos Galanopoulos is suspended, meaning it’s likely to be a DM duo of captain Andre Simoes and Erik Moran.

Goalscorer Odds

For the visitors, Eduoard could offer the best chance of a goal. He’s netted seven times in his last 10 outings. The Frenchman is 17/10 Anytime and 9/2 to break the deadlock.

The wily Griffiths is 7/4 to find the net, with first-leg goal hero Callum McGregor a 10/3 shot.

As for the hosts, their biggest threat comes from 21/10 shot Marco Livaja. The lively Croatian netted eight times last season – including two Europa League goals.
