Best Premier League summer signings XI: Jorginho and Anderson star

| 10.08.2018

The transfer window slammed shut yesterday after a summer of huge spending by Premier League clubs.

Other than Tottenham Hotspur, every club in the division brought in a few new faces.

But which arrivals will light up the top-flight this season? We’ve put together a team made up of the best signings:

Goalkeeper: Alisson (Liverpool)

Alisson might have cost a pretty penny, but it’ll be money very well spent if the Brazil number one addresses Liverpool’s weakness in goal.

Right-back: Ryan Fredericks (West Ham United)

Fredericks is one of several tasty signings West Ham made this summer. The full-back arrived on a free transfer after playing a vital role in helping Fulham come up.

Centre-back: Alfie Mawson (Fulham)

There was plenty of interest in Alfie Mawson, but now he could be a defensive rock for Fulham for years to come. He managed to stand out even in a struggling Swansea side.

Centre-back: Jonny Evans (Leicester City)

There aren’t many deals that will be better value than this one. Leicester have got a Premier League-winning defender in his best years for just £3.5m.

Left-back: Lucas Digne (Everton)

Lucas Digne didn’t see much action for Barcelona over the last few years. He’ll be looking to make up for lost time at Everton. He could be Leighton Baines’ long-term replacement on the left.

Defensive midfield: Jorginho (Chelsea)

It’s going to take some time for Chelsea to master Sarriball. Jorginho will help them get up to speed that much quicker. He’ll set the tempo for the Blues and help them control games.

Centre midfield: Lucas Torreira (Arsenal)

Is Torreira the combative midfielder Arsenal have needed for years? Going by his displays at the World Cup, he just might be.

Centre midfield: Naby Keita (Liverpool)

Ball-winner. Dribbling wizard. Classy playmaker. Naby Keita is almost an entire midfield on his own. If he hits the heights of his displays in Germany, Liverpool have a star on their hands.

Right wing: Alireza Jahanbakhsh (Brighton & Hove Albion)

Brighton broke their record to bring in Alireza Jahanbakhsh for £17m. He scored 21 goals for AZ Alkmaar from the flanks last season. The Iran star could help the Seagulls properly establish themselves as a top-flight side.

Left wing: Felipe Anderson (West Ham United)

West Ham’s new record signing helped Lazio play some of the best football in Italy last season. Hammers fans will be looking forward to seeing that Brazilian flair in East London.

Striker: Salomon Rondon (Newcastle United)

There weren’t many big moves for strikers this summer. Rondon is only at Newcastle on loan, but his powerful presence up front will give them a cutting edge they lacked last season.
