Chelsea v Man City tips: Rivals lock horns at Wembley

The Community Shield resumes yet again as Wembley hosts the annual curtain-raiser for the English top-flight season.

Manchester City won the Premier League at a canter last season and face FA Cup winners Chelsea in the pre-season showpiece.

This will be a repeat of the 2012 match-up in the same competition. City ran out 3-2 winners that day with Samir Nasri scoring the eventual winner.

A repeat of that scoreline is 22/1.

Match odds

Pep Guardiola’s men won both meetings in the Premier League 1-0 last season. The pair are still finding their feet, so it could be a low-scoring game. A 1-0 Man City victory is 8/1.

In the match betting Chelsea are 12/5 to lift the trophy. City are 21/20 to win the game.

The draw is 5/2.

Talking tactics

Riyad Mahrez will do everything possible to be fit for the tie. City’s latest signing limped off against Bayern Munich last week.

World Cup winner Benjamin Mendy may finally climb down from his Twitter fame and could take his spot at left back.

Sergio Aguero could well lead the line for The Citizens after returning from his post-World Cup holiday.

As for Chelsea, David Luiz has heaped praise on new boss Maurizio Sarri.

The experienced Brazilian is enjoying the Italian’s ‘Sarri-ball’ and will fight it out with Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen for a spot in defence.

Calum Hudson-Odoi may start after impressing in pre-season. Ruben Loftus-Cheek and new signing Jorginho could also feature.

Goalscorer odds

Aguero is favourite to notch first at 7/2. His team-mate Gabriel Jesus is 7/5 to score any time.

Raheem Sterling and Kevin de Bruyne are unlikely to feature just yet. This could give the chance to German forward Lukas Nmecha.

He’s 8/5 to net in the 90 minutes.

Alvaro Morata should lead the line for The Blues. The former Madrid man is 11/2 to open the scoring.

Tammy Abraham is back at Chelsea after his loan spell last season. He will be champing at the bit to remain in Sarri’s plans.

He’s 6/1 to be last goal scorer.
