East Fife captain Mark Docherty is currently battling back from the longest injury lay-off of his career. But the Ladbrokes League 1 ace is confident his Fifers teammates can still impress in his absence.

Speaking exclusively to us, the 30-year-old had plenty of praise for boss Darren Young – his former Alloa Athletic teammate.

Docherty said: “I know Darren really well because we played together for a few years at Alloa. I enjoy working with him and as a manager he has impressed me with what he is doing.”

He joked: “Darren did his apprenticeship at Albion Rovers – and he’s not shy in telling you he’s their most successful manager!”

And Docherty believes success could await the boss, saying: “Last season we finished sixth which was not bad considering so I think, given the players the manager has brought in, we should be aiming for the play-offs.”

“We were never in trouble last season so now we want to aim higher.”

As for his own recovery, the 30-year old is confident of coming back soon.

Docherty explained: “Unfortunately, I got injured in January and that wrecked my season.”

“I had never really had an injury before in my life so that was very frustrating. But I’m getting there now. And I’m hoping I can get back into the team in the next month or so.”

East Fife are 7/4 for victory at Brechin City this weekend, while the odds make the Fifers 25/1 for the title.
