Friday’s US Open tips: Nadal and Djokovic to set up final clash?
Published:We’re down to the semi-finals in the men’s draw at the US Open. And we should be in for two cracking matches tonight.
First up, Radael Nadal takes on Juan Martin del Potro. It’s a tie that would have been worthy of the final.
Once that’s settled, Novak Djokovic and Kei Nishikori will step on the Arthur Ashe court for a place in Sunday’s showpiece match.
And we’ve got your tips for tonight’s action…
Rafael Nadal to beat Juan Martin del Potro in five sets – 9/2
Top-seed Nadal is the 8/13 favourite here, but he’s had a tough run to the semi-finals. He’s been on court for almost 16 hours over the last two weeks, more than three and a half hours more than Del Potro.
Del Potro has a 5-5 record against the world no. 1 on hard courts. And if Nadal isn’t at 100%, the Argentine’s powerful hitting could push him to the limit.
But there’s no one better at powering through and finding a way to win than Nadal. The Mallorca-born star looks likely to reach his 25th Slam final here.
Novak Djokovic to beat Kei Nishikori 3-1 – 5/2
After beating John Millman in the last round, Djokovic has now reached the semi-finals at least in his last 11 appearances at the US Open.
He’s likely to reach his eighth final against Nishikori as clear 1/6 favourite. The Serb has a 14-2 head-to-head record against the 21st seed.
But Djokovic can’t afford to be complacent. He lost to the 28-year-old at this stage of the tournament four years ago.
