Thursday’s Europa League tips: Arsenal,Chelsea and the Glasgow giants headline

| 19.09.2018

The opening round of Champions League fixtures have been and gone throwing up some surprise results in the process.

Whilst heavy pre-tournament favourites Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain are left toiling by first match losses, attention turns to the Europa League.

Europe’s second tier competition always features some big names and this year is no different.

There’s a massive 24 games in the tournament tonight, but we’ve picked out five that may pique your interest…

PAOK v Chelsea

Former Europa League winners Chelsea open their campaign against Greece’s second-best team PAOK Salonika.

Chelsea are 5/1 to win the whole competition. They may ring the changes in this one but are much fancied at 4/7 to grab the victory.

Their opponents have had a solid start to their domestic campaign and are 19/4 for victory.

Eden Hazard has been left at home, but Chelsea’s quality could still tell.

They’re 13/8 to win and Over 2.5 goals.

Arsenal v Vorskla Poltava

Arsenal begin their second-successive Europa league campaign against Vorskla Poltava.

This is only the second time the Ukrainian side have reached this stage of the competition.

The Gunners should run up a score here and it’s 21/20 for Arsenal to win and Over 3.5 Goals.

Danny Welbeck could start in this one, the England international is 12/5 to net two or more goals.

Villarreal v Rangers

Rangers are back in a European group-stage for the first time since the 2010-11 Champions League campaign.

Steven Gerrard will be without the suspended Alfredo Morales, so Kyle Lafferty is primed to lead the line in Spain.

The Scottish forward is 9/1 to net. But Villarreal’s recent European pedigree could come to the fore here.

The Yellow Submarine are 4/11 to win and may yet sink any Rangers hopes of grabbing three points.

Celtic v Rosenborg

After Celtic’s loss to AEK in the Champions League qualifiers, boss Brendan Rodgers vowed to put extra emphasis on mounting a strong tilt at the Europa League.

The Scottish champions are 4/9 to beat the Norwegian club who could be without Nicklas Bendtner.

The form of Odsonne Edouard may have been one reason The Hoops let Moussa Dembele leave for Lyon.

It’s 7/5 for Edouard to be first goalscorer and Celtic to win.

RB Leipzig v FC Salzburg

The ‘unofficial’ Red Bull derby.

However, you feel about the ethics this should be a real energy-infused encounter between two free-scoring sides.

The pair netted a combined 138 between them in the German and Austrian Bundesliga’s last season.

Both Teams to Score is 8/15.

You can grab a Price Boost on RB Leipzig to win and 5 or more goals in the match at 13/2.
