Luka Modric - Real Madrid

One or the other of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have won the Ballon d’Or every year since 2007. But things look set to change this year, with Luka Modric the hot favourite for glory.

The Croatian ace led his national side to a World Cup Final, and won another Champions League with Real Madrid. He’s firmly odds-on to win the gong at 2/5.

The 33-year-old is followed in the betting by five-time Ballon d’Or winner and former Real teammate Ronaldo at 5/2.

Teen sensation Kylian Mbappe is next up at 10/1, with Messi now as far out as 12/1.

Antoine Griezmann is available at 14s, with Premier League Golden Boot winner Mo Salah a 20/1 shot.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “Modric has had the best year of his life and it looks as though things will get even better for Madrid’s magician, who looks set to be the first player other than Ronaldo or Messi to win the Ballon d’Or since 2007.”
