Premier League review: Ruthless Liverpool, shaky Fulham and more

Results and performances were put sharply into context in the Premier League last weekend, following the tragic events at the King Power Stadium.

Klopp’s men continue to steamroller Prem

A home game against Cardiff City may be one of the easier challenges Liverpool face this season. But Jurgen Klopp’s men again underlined their credentials as an attacking machine who will seriously challenge for the title.

The Reds chalked up 80% possession and racked up 19 shots in an utterly dominant display, but never looked like they needed to get out of second gear.

Liverpool’s range of threats up front was also underlined. From Mohamed Salah’s ruthless tap in to Sadio Mane’s wondergoal, this won’t have been pleasant watching for their title rivals. Right now, they’re 5/2 to lift the title for the first time since 1990.

Cherries the latest to expose flimsy Fulham

AFC Bournemouth continued their impressive campaign, making it 20 points from 10 Prem games with a 3-0 victory at Fulham. But the Cottagers could hardly have made it easier for them.

Boss Slavisa Jokanovic has tried numerous combinations at the back this term, with similarly shoddy results.

The hosts’ woes began with Tim Fosu-Mensah giving away a needless penalty to gift Bournemouth an opener inside 15 minutes. And they frequently looked fragile before a defensive mess allowed David Brooks to add a second after the break.

Their task wasn’t helped by Kevin McDonald’s red card, but even with 10 men, the space gifted to Callum Wilson for the third goal was unforgivable. Fulham are now Evens to suffer relegation this term.

Martial giving Mou a selection headache

After a string of dismal displays and viral GIFs of that attempted pass against Juventus, Romelu Lukaku finally lost his spot in Man United’s starting XI for the Everton game.

That paved the way for a front three which included Anthony Martial. And the 22-year-old followed up his virtuoso display at Stamford Bridge last weekend with another decisive display as United beat Everton 2-1.

While the penalty he won caused lively debate – including condemnation from Marco Silva – it was Martial’s lively play which forced the decision. And he capped off United’s win with a beautiful second-half strike.

Compared to Sanchez and Lukaku, he’s looking like a world beater at present. As for United, they’ll be bidding for a third successive Prem win at Bournemouth on Saturday, with the Red Devils 21/20 for maximum points.
