Spurs v Barcelona Tips: More Messi magic against Kane and co?
Published:
Tottenham Hotspur’s Champions League campaign got off to the worst possible start against Inter Milan three weeks ago. It doesn’t get any easier tonight against Barcelona.
Mauricio Pochettino will have to do without Jan Vertonghen, Dele Alli, Moussa Dembele, Serge Aurier and Christian Eriksen for the Group B clash.
Can Spurs cause an upset without a host of first-team stars? We’ve had our say below.
Match Odds
Tottenham shocked Real Madrid at this stage 12 months ago. They’re 5/2 to land the spoils here.
Barcelona are winless in three matches in all competitions but are chalked up at 19/20.
You can back the draw at 27/10.
A match featuring two of the world’s most prolific forwards is 1/2 for Both Teams to Score.
Talking Tactics
Son Heung-Min and Erik Lamela are both likely to start in the absence of Eriksen and Alli.
Yet it’s the inclusion of Harry Winks in midfield which could prove vital.
The youngster provides a stabilising influence on the ball. He’ll be crucial in tandem with Victor Wanyama.
At the back, Tony Alderweireld, and particularly the error-prone Davinson Sanchez will need to remain structured and organised.
Otherwise Lionel Messi, Philippe Coutinho and Luis Suarez should get plenty of joy in front of a midfield consisting of Ivan Rakitic, Arturo Vidal and Sergio Busquets.
Goalscorer Odds
Our traders have Messi down as a more likely proposition than Kane to find the net Anytime.
The former is 14/1 to repeat his PSV heroics and net his second UCL hat-trick of the season.
Lucas Moura has the pace to cause Barca problems from the bench. He’s 17/2 to Score Last.
Ex-Liverpool man Coutinho is also expected to feature. The Brazilian is 12/5 to Score Anytime on his return to England.
