United States GP Tips: Can Hamilton wrap up the title Stateside?

The equation for Lewis Hamilton on Sunday is simple. Outscore title rival Sebastian Vettel by eight points and he will join Juan Manuel Fangio on five F1 World Drivers’ Championships

Results this season suggest that may not be so hard. The Mercedes ace has already finished eight points ahead of the German on nine occasions this term.

Hamilton is 11/8 to win the World Championship this weekend. And if his record in Austin is anything to go by, that might not be such a stretch.

United States GP Race Winner Odds

Even if Hamilton doesn’t wrap up the title this weekend, it seems pretty likely that he’ll take the chequered flag once again.

Not only has the Briton won four races in a row this season. He’s also won five of the six GPs to be held in Austin, including in each of the last four years.

Our traders have him down as an 8/15 shot this weekend.

That puts him comfortably ahead of Vettel in the outright market. The Ferrari ace is 3/1 to claim a first win in the US since 2013 following a series of mistakes which have hampered his title bid.

Hamilton’s teammate Valtteri Bottas sacrificed his own race win in Sochi three weeks ago to help the Briton’s title charge. He could be asked to help out again if he’s ahead of his partner.

The Finn hasn’t tasted raceday success since the final round of the 2017 season. That run looks set to go on here at 15/2.

Red Bull pair Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo aren’t give much hope either at 14/1 and 20/1 respectively.

Alternative US GP Odds

Sauber driver Charles Leclerc has returned to something nearing his best recently.

The Monegasque has recorded points finishes in two of his last three races – save a mechanical retirement in Japan.

He’s 4/6 to finish in the top 10 again here, with teammate Marcus Ericsson chalked up as a 11/4 shot to make a points finish for the first time since Belgium.

You can also back the Sauber duo to record a Double Points Finish at 5/1.

Haas may make more appeal in the same market at 11/10, with Kevin Magnussen and Romain Grosjean 4/9 and 1/2 respectively in the individual markets.
