Copa Libertadores Final tips: Will Boca be washed out versus River Plate?

Published:

It’s the big one. A match that gets every football hipsters’ senses tingling.

The Copa Libertadores Final comes down to a straight shoot-out between Argentina’s two fiercest rivals.

After a rain affected first leg, Boca Juniors and River Plate finally played out an entertaining 2-2 draw. But now it all comes down to tonight.

Will Boca score their biggest ever win over their rivals or can River continue their dominance?

Match Odds

River Plate are 23/20 to bag their fourth win in five games against Boca.

Azul y Oro haven’t had a great recent record against their old foes. But form often goes out the window in games like this.

After the 2-2 draw at home, Boca begin at 13/5 to grab the win.

Away goals are scrapped for the final, so another draw at 19/10 would send this straight to penalties.

Talking Tactics

River’s Lucas Pratto was the best player in the first-leg and will be a big threat to Boca tonight.

They also have former Manchester City youth player Bruno Zuculini in their ranks. But it could be Enzo Perez and Exequiel Palacios who get the nod in central midfield again.

River will most likely keep to their 3-4-1-2 formation. But gaffer Marcelo Gallardo will have to decide whether World Cup star Juan Fernando Quintero is ready to start.

It’s thought River may play the more attractive football, while Boca are praised for their fighting qualities.

This is personified by star man Carlos Tevez who will be vying for a place in the starting line-up.

He could feature alongside the exciting attacker Cristian Pavon. A repeat of the 4-3-3 formation played two weeks ago could see Wilmar Barrios anchoring the midfield.

Correct score odds

River had won this fixture 2-0 in both preceding meetings before the first-leg.

The hosts are 8/1 to win by the same scoreline.

Boca last won in November 2017, a repeat of that 2-1 win for Guillermo Scheletto’s side is at 12/112/1.

Any sort of draw would see the game go straight to a penalty shoot-out. Our traders have another 2-2 stalemate at 18/1.

Another high-scoring affair with Both Teams to Score and Over 3.5 goals is 9/4.
