England v USA tips: Rooney ready for final swansong

| 15.11.2018

Wayne Rooney will pull on the Three Lions shirt for the final time at Wembley tonight as England take on the USA.

The DC United forward is being honoured by the FA, in what they have called ‘The Wayne Rooney Foundation International’.

However, this will be a sliding doors moment for the England team, who will give a run out to the next generation of bright, young stars.

The US have are building an exciting squad themselves, but could they spoil the Wembley party?

Match odds

England are 3/10 to bag the win and make it four wins in their last five meetings with the USA.

One of the most famous fixtures between the pair was the 1-1 draw in the 2010 World Cup. Rob Green hasn’t been able to shake off that mistake since.

Another stalemate is 18/5, while the USA are 17/2 to grab the victory.

Talking Tactics

Fabian Delph will captain the home side in what’s likely to be a much-changed England team.

Gareth Southgate could rest some key men for the Nations League tie against Croatia on Sunday.

Jack Butland might replace Jordan Pickford in goal. Meanwhile Lewis Dunk and Callum Wilson could make their international debuts from the start.

Jadon Sancho could come up against Borussia Dortmund team-mate and USA talisman Christian Pulisic.

Acting USA Head coach Dave Sarachan will be without injured full-back Antonee Robinson.

The key for the US is getting the quartet of Pulisic, Tyler Adams, Weston McKennie and Timothy Weah on the pitch at the same time.

Goalscorer odds

Rooney is unlikely to start the game but is 7/1 to notch a penalty. The 33-year-old is 16/1 to Score or Assist.

Callum Wilson to fire a debut goal is at Evens, while Sancho to score his first senior International goal is 7/4.

Bobby Wood should start up front for the Stars and Stripes and is 7/2 to bag anytime. Weah starts at 9/2 to strike against England.

The match to see Over 3.5 goals is 15/8.

With so many changes this could be a close encounter, and England to win and Under 2.5 goals is 9/4.
