Spurs v PSV Tips: Kane and co. to get back on track tonight?

Published:
Harry Kane

Defeat for Tottenham Hotspur against PSV Eindhoven tonight could leave them staring down the barrel of an early Champions League exit.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men need to win and hope Barcelona see off Inter Milan to retain any realistic hope of going through to the knockout stages.

Can Spurs hold up their end of the bargain at Wembley Stadium? Or will PSV upset the odds again? We’ve previewed the match below.

Match Odds

Spurs are 4/11 to win their first match in this season’s Champions League.

Opponents PSV have won just two of their last 14 UCL away matches, conceding two or more goals in 11 of those fixtures.

We go 5/6 about a Tottenham Win and Over 2.5 Goals.

PSV are 7/1 to secure their first elite level European win on English soil since 1997, while the draw is available at 4/1.

Talking Tactics

Tottenham dominated possession in the Netherlands a fortnight ago and will have the lion’s share again here.

They’ll need to be cannier with it towards the end of the match, though. Ball retention cost them two weeks ago and then almost again at Molineux over the weekend.

Harry Winks should help with that in a defensive midfield two alongside Moussa Sissoko. One man who will be missing for Spurs is Hugo Lloris.

The Frenchman is suspended for the clash after being sent off against the Dutch side two weeks ago. Paulo Gazzaniga will come in to replace him.

That could be a blessing in disguise for Spurs, with Lloris having made a number of fatal errors in matches in recent weeks.

Hirving Lozano, meanwhile, provides the main threat for the visitors. He should prove dangerous on the counter-attack for Mark van Bommel’s men, who will set up in a 4-3-3 formation.

Goalscorer Odds

Kane has scored two goals in three Champions League matches and is 8/15 Anytime again here. He’s 9/4 to Score First for the fourth time this season.

Winger Erik Lamela has also been in sparkling form of late. He’s 19/10 to bag his seventh goal of the campaign, or 8/1 to Score 2 or More.

Youngster Lozano has shone for club and country in 2018. Our traders make him a 12/5 shot Anytime, alongside fellow forward Luke de Jong.

Uruguayan star Gaston Pereiro is considered PSV’s next best chance of finding the back of the net at 7/2.
