Cardiff v Man Utd tips: Will Solskjaer be Red Devils’ saviour?

Paul Pogba

It’s been hard to get excited about Manchester United games this season – and that’s just for their own fans. But this evening’s trip to Cardiff City will definitely be one to watch.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer takes charge of the Red Devils for the first time. And as fate would have it, his first game is against the side he took down four years ago.

Will we see an instant improvement from Jose Mourinho’s reign? Or will Cardiff spoil Solskjaer’s honeymoon period? We’ve got all the key odds coming up…

Match Odds

United are 6/10 to end a run of four away games without a win. Their attacking stars could be set free without Mourinho’s shackles. The Red Devils are 8/5 on the -1 Handicap.

We go 9/2 that Cardiff win a fourth home on the trot. The Bluebells earned a draw the last time United came to town, there’s 29/10 about another stalemate five years on.

Talking Tactics

Expect a show from Paul Pogba. He’s barely been seen on the pitch in recent weeks. But Solskjaer has been brought in to restore some of the old United values. And that means Pogba should have the freedom he needs to shine.

Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford should relish a more adventurous approach too. Romelu Lukaku has been granted compassionate leave so misses out here.

Neil Warnock will demand discipline and organisation from his side. They’ll want to crowd United out in the midfield area.

When they do get a chance to break, Junior Hoilett and Josh Murphy will be the key men in wide areas.

Goalscorer Odds

The progress of Martial has been one of the few bright spots for United this term. He’s 9/2 to open the scoring and start the new era with a bang.

Rashford is 17/10 to get on the scoresheet, with Pogba going for 2/1.

The hosts will be looking to Callum Paterson to make the most of any chances that come his way. He’s 14/5 to hit the back of the net.
