World Darts Championship Day 9: Will the Price be right tonight?

We’re all set for a barnstorming end to the week at the 2019 World Darts Championship, with Gerwyn Price, Jonny Clayton and Dimitri van den Bergh all on the oche tonight.

The latter pair face off against each other, while there are also ties involving arch-showmen Devon Petersen and Jelle Klaasen. We’ve previewed it all in our daily darts tips.

Ian White v Devon Petersen

Devon Petersen made a right dogs dinner of beating Wayne Jones in the first round. The South African cruised into a 2-0 lead before eventually holding on to edge a tense deciding leg 3-2.

He’s unlikely to afforded such luxury by the solid yet unspectacular Ian White. Diamond is generally pretty solid on his checkouts and usually averages in the low-to-mid-90s. That should be enough to see him through against his inconsistent opponent.

The 48-year-old is 1/6 to edge the match, with Petersen at 4/1. A 3-0 win for the favourite is 7/5, although the outsider does have a chance to nick the 180 count at 13/5.

Jelle Klaasen v Keegan Brown

Two inconsistent sorts meet in the second match of the night, as Jelle Klaasen faces Keegan Brown.

Both players are capable of tip-top tungsten performances – but it’s Brown who’s the favourite to nick this one at 4/6, against 6/5 for Klaasen. And we reckon that’s probably about right.

The Isle of White arrowsmith chalked up a six 180s, a 40.91% checkout percentage and a 95.78 average in his first round victory over Karel Sedlacek. A similar performance would be enough to see him through here.

Nevertheless, we’re hoping for a close game, with 3-2 to Brown at 10/3. And if it’s close, that should mean both players are on form on their trebles. Over 7.5 180s in the contest is 8/11.

Gerwyn Price v Nathan Aspinall

Quarter 3 is really opening up for Gerwyn Price. The Iceman now has a clear pathway through to the semi-finals after the surprise early exits of Peter Wright and Joe Cullen.

With that in mind, he’ll be keen to avoid an upset against Nathan Aspinall. The Asp breezed past Geert Nentjes in the first round but will need to improve on a checkout percentage of 33.33%.

Price has been playing much above that in the last few months and should prevail at 1/3. He’s 12/5 to bag a comprehensive 3-0 win and 9/4 to asset his quality as the King of the Oche.

Jonny Clayton v Dimitri van den Bergh

The PDC have saved the best until last, with what should be a seriously high-quality encounter between power-scorers Jonny Clayton and Dimitri van den Bergh.

Clayton has been a consistent presence in the latter stages of TV tournaments in 2018. While van den Bergh has reached the quarter-finals or better in three of his last five TV appearances.

It’s difficult to split them as a result. The Belgian is the narrow 4/6 favourite, with the Welshman further back at 6/5. One thing we are fairly certain of are 180s – and plenty of them.

Both men love to pepper the treble bed and the hope is that they’ll bring out the best in each other. Over 8.5 180s is even-money, with a Set 1 Leg 1 maximum at 11/8.
