Tranmere v Tottenham tips: Will the Spurs go marching on?

Published:

Attentions turn away from league form and on to the FA Cup tonight as Tottenham Hotspur take a trip north to Tranmere Rovers.

The hosts are ninth in League Two and saw off Oxford City in first round of the cup, before edging past Southport in a second round replay.

Can Tranmere reach the fourth round for the first time since 2003-04 or will Spurs shoot towards a first FA Cup victory since 1991?

We’ve got all the key info and odds ahead of the third round face off…

Match Odds

Spurs to advance past the third round for the twelfth consecutive season is at 2/11.

Tranmere to bag a win in their first home game of 2019 is 12/1.

A draw at 11/2 would force the game to a replay at Wembley Stadium later in the month.

Talking Tactics

There could be a raft of changes for the away side, as Mauricio Pochettino prepares to host Chelsea and Manchester United next week.

We could see the likes of Paulo Gazzaniga, Juan Foyth and Kyle Walker-Peters in defence.

Further forward, Georges-Kevin N’Koudou could make a rare start as well as Oliver Skipp and Fernando Llorente.

Tranmere boss Micky Mellon should field a full-strength eleven for the visit of the Premier League outfit.

This should include the current joint-top scorer in League Two James Norwood.

He’s bagged 16 goals in 25 league games and will be one the Spurs rear-guard will have to be wary of.

Goalscorer odds

Llorente is 4/7 to net his second goal of the season – in what could be his final game for the club amid interest from Valencia.

Lucas Moura could feature this evening, the Brazilian is at Evens to score anytime.

Norwood is the favourite to score for Rovers at 3/1.

Former Manchester United and Fulham man Larnell Cole is 13/2 to net in the game.

Spurs youngster Kazaiah Sterling could get some pitch time tonight. He’s 7/2 to be last goal scorer.
