ITV Racing Tips: Secret Investor to disrupt Bags’ Groove at Kempton?

Published:
Kempton

All eyes will be on Kempton this Saturday as the second-favourite for Cheltenham’s Supreme makes his eagerly awaited second start for Nicky Henderson.

Angels Breath looked the real deal in December’s Supreme Trial. But the recent equine flu deprived us from seeing the five year-old at Huntingdon earlier in the month.

He’ll make his return on a day which also features the Jeremy Kyle-owned Glen Rocco, a tasty looking scrap between Bags Groove and Secret Investor, plus the Winter Derby at Lingfield.

We’ve got tips for all of the day’s televised racing in our ITV Racing Tips.

NAP – Secret Investor – 1:50 Kempton

If Paul Nicholls has a runner in the Pendil Novices’ Chase, you sit up and take note. The Ditcheat trainer has won the Grade 2 race in seven of the last 10 years, including in 2018 with Cyrname.

His yard are in tremendous form, and he saddles Secret Investor here hoping to reverse placings with Bags Groove, who beat our pick by 9l in their November meeting at Wincanton.

The seven-year-old gets a 5lb pull from the favourite this time, though.

And with the Kayf Tara gelding improving all the time, we reckon Secret Investor can get one over on a rival who blew up completely on his last run round Kempton over Christmas.

NB – Glen Rocco – 3:35 Kempton

It’s impossible to ignore Glen Rocco in the final race of the afternoon, as the Jeremy Kyle-owned eight-year-old bids to follow up a huge 23l win over course and distance last time out.

Nick Gifford’s charge has been progressing at a rate of knots, and the feeling is a further 13lb rise by the handicapper may not be enough to keep a hold on him.

The eight-year-old was eased up on the run in at Kempton in December. He should be capable of defying a hike in the weights to claim a third win of the season for his famous owner.

Lively Longshot – Brecon Hill – 3:00 Kempton

Supreme contender Angels Breath should prove hard to beat over 2m here. But a nine-runner race gives us plenty of opportunity to go for something at a handier price than the odds-on fav.

Brecon Hill is the selection following a promising season which has produced wins at Huntingdon and Leicester either side of a close-second behind Brewin’upastorm in December.

And that’s what we base our pick on. Winston C and Flash The Steel finished behind our pick that day and have subsequently gone onto win, and that’s without the form of Brewin’upastorm.

The Huntington winner went onto finish just 4l behind Ballymore favourite Champ next time out, and then went toe-to-toe with Albert Bartlett third-fav Birchdale prior to falling at Cheltenham.

Add it all together and you’ve got a nice piece of franked form, and one which could allow our contender to run into the places in a race that’s not too deep without the top two in the market.
