Manchester City v Arsenal Tips: City to shoot down the Gunners?

Published:
Pep Guardiola Man City

Arsenal are facing a wounded animal in Manchester City this afternoon – and that’s never good.

City were outworked by a plucky Newcastle United side in a 2-1 loss to the Toon in midweek.

However, Leicester City did Pep Guardiola’s men a favour by grabbing a point off Liverpool.

But with the Citizens at 13/8 second faves for the title, the gaffer will expect a big response from his players this afternoon.

And what about Arsenal? Well stick around to see if we give them any chance of a rare away win at the Etihad Stadium.

Match Odds

Arsenal haven’t beaten City away from him since the 2-0 victory in 2015. Both of the scorers that day – Santi Cazorla and Oliver Giroud, are no longer at the club, with the Gunners 9/1 outsiders to win here.

City wiped the floor with Arsenal in the last four meetings and our traders have them at 2/7.

There were a two draws in three head-to-heads between May 2016 and April 2017. Another stalemate is 24/5.

Talking Tactics

City were undone as much by their own poor play as Newcastle’s relentless approach on Tuesday night.

Arsenal could start the busy Alex Iwobi and boisterous Alexandre Lacazette in a front-three alongside Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to try to pressurise Pep’s defence.

Fernandinho has arguably been City’s most important player this season – but the defeat in midweek showed why the home side need another option in the middle of the park.

However, a trio of Raheem Sterling, Leroy Sane and Sergio Aguero could run riot against a make-shift Arsenal backline.

Shkodran Mustafi could be partnered by usual left-back Nacho Monreal at centre-half. Carl Jenkinson could even get the nod at right back.

Goalscorer odds

The last player to score a goal for Arsenal against City was Lacazette in November 2017. You can find the Frenchman at 13/5 to strike anytime.

Aubameyang is the Gunners top scorer with 18 goals in all competitions. The striker is in hot form, with our traders pricing him at 9/4 anytime.

City have scored three goals in three of their last four victories against today’s opponents.

Both teams to score and Over 3.5 goals in the game is 7/5. Aguero is 10/3 to open the deadlock, whilst Kevin De Bruyne and Gabriel Jesus are at 19/10 and 5/6 to bag respectively.
