Motherwell v Hearts Tips: Steelmen for six-in-a-row in Ladbrokes Prem?

Published:
Curtis Main - Motherwell

To paraphrase a football cliché, it’s been a season of two halves for Motherwell!

After managing a dismal 18 points from 20 games in the Ladbrokes Premiership, they’ve now won five matches on the trot and are closing in on the top six.

Visitors Heart of Midlothian have had an up-and-down campaign, but currently sit in fifth spot.

So, will this be more Motherwell magic or can the visitors put a dent in their resurgence?

Match Odds

While Hearts are 10 points above their hosts in the table, their away record doesn’t make for great reading. They’ve lost four of the last seven league games on their travels – including a 2-0 defeat to rock-bottom St Mirren.

We go 19/10 for a Motherwell victory. Meanwhile, the away side are 31/20 for maximum points, with the Draw at 2/1.

Stephen Robinson’s men love a 2-1 win. They’ve had three of them since mid-December.

Another 2-1 in the Steelmen’s favour is 10/1, while a straightforward Over 2.5 Goals in this clash is 11/8.

Talking Tactics

Both of these sides could go with three at the back. Motherwell like a 3-5-2 system, while Jam Tarts’ gaffer Craig Levein has been plumping for 3-4-1-2 lately.

The hosts now seem to have a settled strike pairing in Curtis Main and Jake Hastie. The combative, terrier-like Englishman has worked well alongside pacy youngster Hastie – who has been superb since returning from a loan at Alloa Athletic.

Robinson has built a young side at Fir Park, with their starting XI last weekend against St Mirren all comfortably under 30. But the dependable Tom Aldred offers experience at the back.

The visitors are likely to go four in midfield, with a central pairing of Arnaud Djoum and Olly Lee. Up front, Steven Naismith could start with Uche Ikpeazu. The latter came off the bench against Livingston after more than two months on the sidelines.

Goalscorer Odds

Hastie has been getting off to a flyer lately. He’s broken the deadlock in each of the Well’s last two games. You can get him at 5/2 Anytime, and 13/2 to net First.

As for Naismith, he’s caused the Steelmen plenty of misery. The Scotland ace is eyeing up a 10th career goal against this opposition. He’s 11/5 Anytime, and 11/2 to continue his habit of being Last Goalscorer.

Fancy a longshot? Then you might be keen on Aldred. The towering defender has three goals in the last nine Prem games, and he’s 13/2 to notch again here.
