Kazakhstan v Scotland Tips: Tartan Army to bag the points?

Published:
Alex McLeish

Scotland take on Kazakhstan this afternoon, hoping to kick-off their Euro 2020 qualifiers with a win.

It’s been over 20 years since the Tartan Army were last at a major tournament. But they head into this qualification campaign buoyed by topping their Nations League group. And the expanded Euros format gives them a great chance to be there next summer.

Three points in Astana would be the perfect start if they’re going to challenge Belgium and Russia for one of the two automatic qualification spots in Group I.

Match Odds

Our traders fancy Scotland to leave with the points at evens. The hosts are out at 29/10, with 21/10 about the draw.

If the Scots take the game to their opponents, they could have some real joy too. Their opponents have only kept one competitive clean sheet since 2016. Alex McLeish’s side are 2/1 to win to nil.

Talking Tactics

McLeish has been hit with a raft of injuries for this one, but Kazakhstan are still likely to sit back and hope to get something on the break.

The visitors might need to be patient. They’ll miss captain Andrew Robertson’s delivery from left-back too, especially with Kieran Tierney also unavailable. That means Graham Shinnie should get the nod.

Ryan Fraser isn’t being risked on the plastic pitch either, so James Forrest could be the danger man on the flanks.

Goalscorer Odds

Oli McBurnie’s been in great goalscoring form for Swansea City this term. He shares 4/1 favouritism in the First Goalscorer market with Oliver Burke and Marc McNulty.

And after bagging a hat-trick in his last international appearance, James Forrest is 16/5 to grab a goal here.

Kazakhstan’s likeliest goalscorer is Aleksey Shchetkin. We go 14/5 that the Astana forward gets on the scoresheet.
