Real Madrid v Ajax Tips: Will visitors be bouncing in the Bernabeu?

Published:
Modric and Tadic

Ajax were mighty unlucky to lose 2-1 in the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 clash against Real Madrid.

Most years, heading to the Santiago Bernabeu in need of a win would be a daunting task. But this is no ordinary season.

Real are enduring their worst campaign in recent history, and have been seriously ropey at home. Can Los Blancos see this tie out, or will all-action Ajax do the damage?

Match Odds

Despite three home defeats on the trot, the odds still have Real as 6/10 favourites to win on the night.

A Draw (13/4) would be enough for Santiago Solari’s side, while Ajax are 19/5 to outscore their hosts in 90 minutes.

Fancy De Godenzonen to reach the quarter-finals? That’s an 11/2 shot. Meanwhile, we go 31/20 for Ajax to Score 2+ Goals in the Spanish capital.

Talking Tactics

These two matched one another tactically last game – with both going 4-3-3. Neither side tend to budge from that system, so expect more of the same here.

Real could balance dynamism and experience in that midfield trio, with Luka Modric, Federico Valverde and Casemiro as the chosen trio.

Sergio Ramos is suspended for this game, and could be a huge loss at the heart of Real’s defence. A pairing of Nacho and Raphael Varane looks likely at centre-half.

Ajax are all action – scoring 35 goals in their last 12 away games. Goal machine Dusan Tadic is at the centre of their front three, usually with David Neres and (first-leg goalscorer) Hakim Ziyech either side.

One of Europe’s hottest prospects, Frenkie de Jong is off to Barcelona in the summer for £67.5m. He could be key against their El Clasico rivals in midfield tonight.

Goalscorer Odds

It’s a Madrid pair who sit top of the betting. Benzema and Gareth Bale are 10/1 apiece to notch Anytime – with a combined 33 goals this term.

Ziyech notched at Johan Cruyff Arena in the reverse, and the Moroccan magician is 11/4 to strike again.

As for Tadic, he’s looking to continue an impressive run of CL scoring. After group stage braces against Bayern Munich and AEK Athens, he’s 23/10 Anytime, and a chunky 16/1 to bag Two or More Goals.
