Away wins ease Palace and Burnley’s relegation woes

Despite a depleted Premier League schedule this weekend, there was still plenty of key movement in the bottom half of the table.

Both Crystal Palace and Burnley picked up vital away wins at Newcastle and Bournemouth respectively.

Roy Hodgson’s Eagles are now 11 points clear of the drop zone after their 1-0 win on Tyneside, while Burnley’s second straight victory has pushed them eight clear of the danger zone.

And our traders are now fairly convinced that Cardiff will join Fulham and Huddersfield in the Championship next term.

The Bluebirds are a skinny 1/12 for the drop, with Brighton deemed the next most likely, out at a fairly chunky 14/1.

There’s now 16s about Dyche’s Clarets going down, with Southampton at 33s and Newcastle at 40s.

But it isn’t over until it’s over. Cardiff have a game in hand on Newcastle, Bournemouth, Burnley and Palace.

And crucially, four of their final six games are against sides in the bottom half.

Neil Warnock’s side head to Burnley on Saturday, before a trip to Brighton three days later.

Cardiff will have to improve on an away record which has seen them gain just eight points this term, but they’ll see these next two games as pivotal to their survival chances.

It would be a remarkable turnaround if they pull it off. We’ve got the Welsh side at 16/5 to win at Turf Moor this coming weekend, with 18/5 on the Bluebirds to win on the South Coast three days later.
