Man United v West Ham Tips: Red Rom to haunt the Hammers again?

Published:

It’s been a long time since West Ham last won at Old Trafford. So long in fact that Carlos Tevez scored the winning goal and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer started up-front for Man United.

Now Ole’s at the wheel. And he’s currently enduring his worst run since taking over as Red Devils boss following a sequence of four defeats in five matches.

Can United return to winning ways against one of their favourite opponents. Or will Manuel Pellegrini’s men spring another shock at Old Trafford? It’s all in our big match preview.

Match Odds

Man United may be on a poor run but their form at Old Trafford is rock solid. Marcus Rashford and co. have won six of their last eight home matches in the Premier League.

They’re 2/5 for all three points and 7/4 to Win with Both Teams to Score in the match. After hitting three or more goals in four of those wins, we go 10/1 about a 3-1 success here.

Alternatively, West Ham are out at 13/2 for their first top-flight win at Old Trafford in 12 years, while the Draw is available at 19/5.

Talking Tactics

Solskjaer may make changes ahead of the trip to Barcelona in midweek. That could mean recalls for the likes of Marcos Rojo, Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard.

Scott McTominay and Fred are also potential absentees with Nemanja Matic and Ander Herrera both pushing for starts. Paul Pogba will remain the lynchpin in a 4-3-1-2 setup.

The Hammers have their own selection questions ahead of the match. Issa Diop is a likely returnee, although Pellegrini has tougher decisions to make going forward.

Javier Hernandez and Marko Arnautovic will fight it out for the lone front role, with whoever misses out joining Manuel Lanzini and Felipe Anderson in a three behind the striker.

Declan Rice and Mark Noble will be crucial once again as the defensive midfield screen.

Goalscorer Odds

It’s not just United who enjoy a terrific record against West Ham. Lukaku does too. The Belgian hitman has 11 goals in 14 matches against the Hammers.

He’s failed to score in just two of his last 11 appearances against them. With that in mind, we go 10/11 about Red Rom Anytime or 4/1 for him to Score 2 or More.

Martial is next best at 19/20 Anytime.  For the visitors, Hernandez will be eager to get his name on the scoresheet against his former club. He’s a 9/4 shot ahead of Arnautovic at 5/2.
