Watford v Wolves Tips: Goals galore in tight FA Cup semi-final?

| 07.04.2019

We already know the name of one of this season’s FA Cup finalists. But who will join them at Wembley? Watford and Wolves are ready to fight it out in this afternoon’s second semi-final.

Both clubs are enjoying terrific seasons in the Premier League. They’re separated by just a single point in the table, although the Hornets triumphed when the pair met earlier in the season.

Who will come out on top in this afternoon’s crucial encounter? We’ve tipped the semi-final below.

Match Odds

Our traders can barely separate these two evenly-matched sides. Wolves are slight favourites to follow up their victory over Manchester United with another success inside 90 minutes.

We have them down at 31/20 against 15/8 for an inconsistent Watford side who relegated Fulham with a comprehensive 4-1 victory at Vicarage Road in midweek.

Alternatively, it’s 21/20 for the Hornets to qualify, with Wolves odds-on at 8/11.

The Draw is available at 21/10, with a 2-2 scoreline between two dynamic frontlines priced at 14/1.

Talking Tactics

There’s good news where the team news is concerned. Nuno Espirito Santo and Javi Gracia have no fresh injury concerns ahead of today’s clash.

Wolves are expected to line-up in their customary 3-5-2 formation with Raul Jimenez and Diogo Jota leading the attack, while Watford will go with Gerard Deulofeu and Troy Deeney up top.

The midfield battle could be one to keep an eye on here. Etienne Capoue and Abdoulaye Doucoure v Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho has all the makings of an FA Cup classic match-up.

Goalscorer Odds

Both sides have plenty of firepower to call upon in front of goal. Jimenez is the obvious threat for the hosts after 18 goals for club and country this term, including four in his last six matches.

He’s 13/8 Anytime or 7/2 to Score First for the third time in this season’s FA Cup. Jota is 12/5 to build on his strike against United with another here, with Willy Boly an outside pick at 7/1.

For Watford, Deeney scored the opener in the midweek win over Fulham. He’s 12/5 to get on the scoresheet at any point, putting him at the same price at potential partner Deulofeu.

But what about 5/1 shot Doucoure? The Frenchman is bang in form with two goals in his last two matches. If he can get clear of the Wolves midfield he looks a decent shout to find the net.

Alternatively, Both Teams to Score is 20/23, with Over 3.5 Goals at 3/1.
