Arsenal star to dust off scoring boots in Champions League
Published:
The woodwork proved to be his nemesis during a routine Premier League victory over Stoke at the weekend, but a change of competition should benefit Arsenal’s livewire forward Alexis Sanchez.
It’s Champions League time for the Gunners once again and it’s Europe that provided the springboard for a prolific debut campaign for Sanchez so soon after arriving from Barcelona last summer.
The south American speedster fired the decisive goal of the tie during the second leg of Arsenal’s group-stage qualifier against Besiktas last August and it’s accurate to say he never looked back after that.
Sanchez had clocked up another three Champions League goals by the conclusion of the group stages in November, whilst smashing 10 more across other competitions by the same juncture.
As mentioned above, only the width of two separate uprights prevented the Chilean opening his seasonal account at the Emirates days before Arsene Wenger and his men hit the road to face Dinamo Zagreb.
If the Croatian champions’ last excursion in the Champions League is anything to go by, that elusive goal Sanchez is chasing could well arrive in Zagreb on Wednesday night.
Dinamo began their 2012/13 campaign by going down 2-0 at home to Porto, losing the next four matches, before eventually gaining a draw on matchday six to stop the rot – safe to say they didn’t qualify for the knockout stages.
Indeed, the English competition stalwarts are the strong 1/2 favourites to take maximum points from their first Group F assignment, with Ladbrokes also running a juicy promotion on the match.
The bookmaker offer a price boost on Arsenal winning a game in which Sanchez scores, out from 6/4 to 2/1.
Also, being a televised clash, any first goalscorer bets will be eligible – Sanchez is a 4/1 chance – for the potential Sharp Shooter returns.*
