Arsenal vs Man City: Gunners poised for more Carling Cup woe

Published:

The Carling Cup gets interesting this week as the Premier League big boys start to face-off against each other.

Manchester City are the narrow favourites in their game against Arsenal and – with their ability to field a completely different side to the one that drew against Liverpool on Sunday – it’s easy to see why.

However, while Robin van Persie will probably be at home wrapped in cotton wool for this fixture, the Gunners shouldn’t be completely ruled out…

Match odds

City are the 11/8 favourites heading into this game and have enjoyed a brilliant start to their Premier League season.

They have been similarly ruthless in the Carling Cup, dispatching Birmingham City and Wolverhampton Wanderers with a minimum of fuss so far.

They saw off Arsenal at the same stage two years ago and will be hard to back against.

However, the Gunners were finalists last year and have not lost in their previous ten games.

They haven’t lost against City in their last three meetings – drawing two and winning one – and can be backed at 2/1 to win at the Emirates.

Goal markets

The previous game between these sides finished goalless in a tentative game last January but, with more pressing concerns for both teams, they will be determined to see this over in 90 minutes.

City boast the best away attack in the Premier League and face an Arsenal team who have kept just three clean sheets in their previous ten home games.

With Arsenal only failing to find the twice at home this season, backing over 2.5 goals looks worth consideration at 4/6.

Finally, Samir Nasri – who scored in his last Carling Cup outing for City – can be backed at 7/1 to find the net on his first game against his former team.
