Aston is punters’ Strictly favourite; Debbie’s odds take a trim
Published:
Alexandra Burke may still be firm favourite to win Strictly Come Dancing at odds of 9/4, but it’s former JLS man Aston Merrygold who seems to be the public’s choice.
The 29-year-old has been the most popular pick with punters to win the 2017 Glitterball Trophy. That’s despite unspectacular performances from both former X Factor star Burke, and 11/4 shot Merrygold over the weekend.
It was Debbie McGee who topped the scoreboard in Week Five, and that’s seen her odds of glory trimmed. Having previously been 8/1, her magical performance has seen that tumble into 7s.
However, she remains fourth in the betting behind soap star Gemma Atkinson, who remains at her pre-Week Five price of 4/1 to win the Glitterball Trophy.
Jonnie Peacock (12/1), Joe McFadden (14/1) and Mollie King (16/1) remain dark horses for glory, but Davood Ghadami’s hopes look to be fading, following his drift out to 25/1.
Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “Strictly may be smashing it in comparison with X Factor as far as viewing figures are concerned, but at this rate producers will have their rival show to thank if one of this year’s market leaders goes on to win.”
