Australia vs England – Aussies to salvage pride in fifth Ashes Test
Published:The urn may be returning with Andrew Strauss and co, but the final Test in Sydney looks set to be an epic battle.
England can really stick the boot into the Australians with a win which would guarantee a series win, but the Australians are fighting for their pride and Michael Clarke’s side are set to come out all guns blazing.
England are the 11/8 favourites to win in Sydney but Australia, at 9/4 to beat England, offer the value considering the last time England entered an Ashes Test as favourites, they were beaten by 267 runs.
But Australia have never been dominant in Test matches at the Sydney Cricket Ground, winning 25 from 53 Test with England winning 21 and seven drawn.
England will settle for a draw, which would ensure a series win, but draws aren’t common in Sydney and this match should be settled with a win.
Usman Khawaja will come in to replace Ricky Ponting and the debutant is a decent price at 5/1 to be Australia’s leading first innings runscorer.
Alastiar Cook and Mike Hussey currently lead the top series runscorer charts, and while Cook is 52 runs ahead of Hussey and 4/11 to win the accolade of top Ashes runscorer, Hussey is a decent price at 9/4 to overhaul Cook’s lead.
But England’s top series wicket-taker betting is a lot closer with James Anderson currently leading Steven Finn by three wickets and Chris Tremlett by four wickets.
Anderson is currently 1/2 to be England’s top series wicket-taker, but Tremlett has been in fine form in the two Test matches he has started and is 9/2 to overcome the four-wicket deficit and win the accolade.
Should Tremlett take the wickets that lead to an English victory, he looks a decent bet at 16/1 to be the man of the match.
