Barcelona cut to 1/2 to win Champions League after Madrid win
Published:Barcelona took a massive stride into the Champions League final with their 2-0 victory at the Bernabeu over Real Madrid and understandably are now odds-on again to win the tournament.
Pep Guardiola’s team were 6/5 in the Champions League odds ahead of the opening leg of their semi final, but these odds have now been cut to 1/2.
Only a three-goal defeat would realistically see Barcelona eliminated and they last time they lost by this margin at the Nou Camp was back in La Liga in December 2002, when Sevilla won 3-0.
Real Madrid could also win 3-1 or 4-2 to scramble through on away goals and these are results that have been obtained by Valencia, Deportivo La Coruna and Atletico Madrid since.
The chances may be slim, but punters believing that Jose Mourinho can work his magic and somehow get a result that would send Real Madrid through, may want to back them to win the tournament.
Real Madrid are 33/1 in the Champions League betting to lift the trophy, while it is 7/2 that they win at the Nou Camp.
In the other half of the draw, Manchester United’s dominance in their first leg over Schalke should mean that they are even more certain than Barcelona to progress into the final at Wembley on May 28th.
Manchester United matched Barcelona’s 2-0 away win and are now 6/4 to win the Champions League.
This may a decent price given that Schalke have virtually no hope of overturning their 2-0 deficit at Old Trafford and is therefore the price on Manchester United winning a one-off game with Barcelona.
Schalke are now 100/1 to win the Champions League following their disappointing display at home, but now they have to attack they may be more dangerous, as they proved when thumping Inter Milan 5-2 in the quarter finals.
