The biggest shock results from the 23/24 Premier League season

Wolves 2-1 Man City - September 30, 2023

We kick things off with Wolves' previously mentioned 2-1 win over Man City right at the beginning of the 2023/24 season, which concluded with Pep Guardiola's side winning the league once again.

Wolves opened the scoring in the first half thanks to an own goal from City defender Ruben Dias, with O'Neil's side actually going into the break 1-0 up over the reigning Champions.

In the second-half though, just before the hour mark, Julian Alvarez found the back of the net to make things 1-1, with many fans of the belief that City would go on to score at least one more, winning the game in the process.

That isn't what happened though, as eight minutes later, Wolves' Hwang Hee-chan found the back of the net to put his side in the lead once again, with the game eventually ending 2-1.

Guardiola had to deal without Rodri and Kevin De Bruyne for that game, due to suspension and injury respectively, and both were missing from their 2024/25 season too, which Wolves were close to taking something from.

The score was 1-1 heading into additional time, when Stones headed in from a corner to prevent back-to-back upsets in his fixture, sending City home with all three points in the process.

Luton 1-1 Liverpool - November 5, 2023

Liverpool had undergone a major rebuild in the summer of 2023, selling Jordan Henderson, Fabinho and other star midfielders, replacing them with the likes of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai.

As such, it was expected to be a season of real transition for the Reds, but after a few weeks, it became clear that Jurgen Klopp's side had a real chance of challenging for the title.

That made their 1-1 draw at Kenilworth Road against Luton even more surprising, but in truth, Liverpool were actually quite lucky. Luton were the better side on the night, and it seemed like Liverpool were going to lose when Tahith Chong scored in the 80th minute.

However, Luis Diaz scored in added time to give Liverpool one point, saving Klopp and co from what could have been and even more embarrassing evening than it ended up being.

Aston Villa 1-0 Man City - December 6, 2023

Aston Villa qualified for the Champions League, so it isn't too much of a shock to see the team who finished in fourth beating the team who won the league, but the manner in which Villa won the game is what was surprising about this one.

Unai Emery's Villa dominated City in a way that we haven't really seen Pep Guardiola's side be dominated. Man City have lost games, but they're rarely ever played off the park, and that's what happened against Villa on December 6 of last year.

Leon Bailey scored the only goal of the game in the 74th minute, securing the win for Emery and co and denting City's title hopes, even if only temporarily.

Man United 0-3 Bournemouth - December 9, 2023

Considering they lost 6-1 to Man City away from home in November, fans of Bournemouth were pretty stunned when their side beat Man United 3-0 at Old Trafford in December 2023.

The scoreline was pretty fair too, with Bournemouth being by far the better team on the day, despite the quality Erik ten Hag had at his disposal.

Dominic Solanke, who now plays for Tottenham, opened the scoring inside the first five minutes, with Philip Billing making it 2-0 with just over 20 minutes to go.

That wasn't all though, as to complete the rout, Marcos Senesi made it 3-0 to Bournemouth in the 73rd minute, capping off what was an afternoon to forget for Ten Hag and his side.

Fulham 2-1 Arsenal - December 31, 2023

Arsenal lost to Fulham in their final game of 2023, but what makes the shock result even more painful is that, had they won, the Gunners would have won the Premier League the following May.

Arsenal's loss to Fulham was actually the start of a real up turn in form for Mikel Arteta's side, with it having come the game after a 2-0 loss to West Ham at home.

Things seemed to be going well for Arsenal, with Bukayo Saka scoring in the 5th minute, but Raul Jimenez popped up with a goal to equalise before the half-hour mark.

Then, in the 59th minute, Bobby Decordova-Reid scored to send Fulham into the lead, with Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, Martin Odegaard and co struggling to turn things around.

Fulham 3-0 Tottenham - March 16, 2024

It took over two months of football in 2024 for us to see a shock Premier League result, with the first coming on March 16 when Fulham beat Tottenham 3-0 at Craven Cottage.

Ange Postecoglu's side were still hoping to finish in the Champions League spots come the end of the season, but their hopes of doing so were dented badly when Fulham beat them, and convincingly so.

Rodrigo Muniz opened the scoring in the first half, with Sasa Lukic making it 2-0 before the 50th minute mark. Muniz then finished off the game with a goal in the 61st minute, picking up a huge three points for Fulham in the process.

Everton 2-0 Liverpool - April 24, 2024

In what ended up being Jurgen Klopp's final Merseyside Derby, Liverpool were utter played off the park by Everton as Sean Dyche beat his German counterpart 2-0.

Jarrad Branthwaite scored in the first half for the Blues, with Man of the Match Dominic Calvert-Lewin essentially ending Liverpool's title hopes with a goal to make it 2-0 in the 58th minute.
